Spartanburg Humane Society – New Website and 2011 Calendar Contest Help Raise Money and Awareness for Animals in Need
June 15, 2010 (Greenville, SC) – Greenville-based web development firm Mediasation helped the Spartanburg Humane Society launch a new website this spring.  The new website needed to be easy to use, easy to update, and showcase the animals above all else. Mediasation provided design, custom programming, and search engine optimization services to meet these needs, along with the Mediasation CMS and E-Commerce software to manage the site in the future.

Find Your Next Best Friend

The primary goal of the Spartanburg Humane Society is to find homes for the animals that come into their care. The most critical requirement of the new website was to showcase the animals for adoption in a fun and engaging way and to make it easy to find your “next best friend.”

Mediasation met this requirement with several features. Greeting visitors when they first arrive at the site is a rotating banner of current and previous residents of the Spartanburg Humane Society. These cute critters welcome the web visitor and invite them to learn more about supporting the Humane Society through donations or volunteering, signing up for training classes, or participating in new fundraising events such as the calendar contest.

In addition to the home page banners, the Find Your Next Best Friend feature on each page rotates through animals for adoption. Dogs, cats, large animals, and small furry friends are all showcased on each page. Users click through to learn more.

The third way to view the animals for adoption is to view the Featured Pets. SHS personnel upload photos, videos, and stories about these adoptable cuties so that potential owners can get to know their next best friend before coming to meet him in person.

Raise Money. Raise Awareness.

Second only to adoptions, is the requirement to receive donations online. Money raised through the website helps the Spartanburg Humane Society provide quality care to animals that have been neglected, abandoned, or abused. Since they do not receive funding through any national humane organization, local donations are critical. Mediasation provided the Spartanburg Humane Society with a variety of ways to do this. In addition to receiving cash donations as memorial or honor gifts and the guardian angel fund, the humane society also raises funds through the new online store where visitors can sign up for dog training classes, summer camp, and donate toys for shelter animals.

Enter. Vote. Win!

The latest tool in the fundraising arsenal is the Calendar Cover Contest. The Spartanburg Humane Society came to Mediasation after the initial website launched looking for a way to allow Humane Society fans to vote on their favorite pet to be featured on the cover of the 2011 Pets of Spartanburg calendar. Pet lovers can upload a photo of their best friend and include a description as to why they deserve to win. Donors vote for their favorite pet by making a donation. The pet that raises the most money by July 31, 2010 wins! The Spartanburg Humane Society hopes to raise over $10,000 in this contest and make the contest an annual event.
